Was doing my semi-daily search for SHL info and came across the weblog of an 18 y.o. Texan student who works in Legal/Entertainment sector.
(What's the point of weblogs? Surely there is nothing more yawn-inducing than someone elses on-line diary? Unless it was Haley's on-line diary. Wouldn't that be something? )
Anyway, one of the few interesting things this diarist did around mid-November was visit the set of SHL.
The pic above is from the set and appears to show old-time French cavalry. This may have something to do with the plotline where one of Walter's great-uncles as a young man fell in love with a Sultans daughter. Perhaps the Princess Jasmine played by Ms Vaugier? And there was something on the net recently about an area off Symphony Square, Austin being dressed up as a Moroccan market for the film. The French had a colonial presence in Morocco at one time. Maybe Walters great-uncle was a French Foreign Legionnaire? The name of the pic as posted by diarist was "Funeral-Scenek". I wonder whose funeral?
Below is an excerpt from the weblog. This isn't much information but it is better than nothing.

How I Almost Met Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, and Haley Joel Osment (round 2)
Okay so today I showed up to work ready to answer phones and check my e-mail, but my boss Kevin (the locations specialist) informed me we were going on a set visit to Secondhand Lions! I was like "Pimp tight, fool." So Tom Copeland, director of the Texas Film Commission, picks us up and we stop by this country home cookin' place before driving out to the set.
When we got there, I planned on being real smooth and cool, but as soon as I stepped out of the truck, I plunged my foot into a steaming pile of horse crap!! So I spent the next several minutes trying to play it off by nonchalantly rubbing my shoe really hard against some gravel to get the crap off.
Anyway, when we got to where they were filming, I asked the director of photography, "Where's Michael Caine and Robert Duvall?" He replied, "They're dead." I was like, "What!?" And he responded, "Well, their characters are dead, the scenes we're filming today take place 30 years after the story." Turns out they were back in LA doing publicity. Then he handed me some publicity photos to look at. Man, Haley Joel Osment is getting old! (HOW RUDE!!!! OZ)
I was pretty bummed, cause this was the second time I thought I was going to meet someone famous (they were also on the guest list at the Governor's Mansion party but didn't show up...I DID get to meet John Lee Hancock, director of The Rookie and the upcoming Alamo movie, though).
It was pretty cool watching everyone running around working. The DP started freaking out because clouds came in to cover the sunlight and he started yelling "Drop to 45!! Drop to 45!" And it was pretty funny watching the actors act. When they started shooting we hung out in the "Video Village", which is a tent where the director sits and watches the footage on video screens. It was a lot of fun, and I got some pictures that I'll try to put up on here.
