As 2003 quickly draws to a close, and just as we did exactly one year ago for 2002, it is time to think about the many Haley Moments from the past year and choose some of the favourites.
It has been yet another full and complete year for our little hero. A year dominated by the release of his most recent brilliant work, "Secondhand Lions". But before that, perhaps we should reflect on some of the numerous other wonderful Haley Moments from the past year... perhaps this look back will rekindle an early memory for you, which will then stand out as a favourite...
"Secondhand Lions" was not the only film for Haley this year, back on February 14 was the release of "Jungle Book 2" with pics of Haley at the February 9th premiere. The film might have really won you over with the JB2 DVD release where the special features showed Haley in studio singing his own songs from the film. Perhaps a favourite moment was the Haley reference at the 2002 Oscar's, or the new pics of Haley at the "It Runs in the Family" premiere. Then again maybe a favourite moment was the pages of birthday wishes posted here by so many people from around the world. I'm sure many will remember the terrific pics of Haley at the 5th Michael Douglas golf event where Haley won a one year least to a brand new Lexus for getting closest to the hole. Or maybe your favourite moment was learning that Haley immediately donated the Lexus to the MPTF charity, or maybe it happened while watching the golf event on television. Your favourite moment might have been when the SHL trailer was finally discovered. Of course a very nice moment were all the new pics of Haley from the "Open Range" premiere. Not unlike the terrific moments found while watching Haley promote SHL on his numerous TV appearences or the many pics of Haley at the SHL premiere. Not to be outdone, there were many terrific moments found in the numerous print interviews Haley gave to help promote SHL. Of course, another nice moment was when Haley's agent, Meredith Fine, was kind enough to stop by and post some updated figures about the initial boxoffice numbers for SHL. But then who could forget the great Haley pics from the Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony. Just maybe... all of this is overshadowed by Haley's performance, and encore at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Those are just some of the highlights of the numerous Haley Moments which occured here on the message boards. Your most memorable moment might have come from watching SHL in the theatre, or maybe you have only recently seen some of Haley's earlier work this year which left you amazed and crying for more.  Well... hopefully you get the idea about what we are looking for with your favourite Haley Moment.
My Top 3 Haley Moments from 2003 are:
1.) Of course at the top of the list for me is Haley's new film "Secondhand Lions". I found a level of decency and class to the film which I think is lacking in many of the films released by Hollywood these days. The film itself told a warm hearted story, and had a great time doing it, while offering some wonderful interaction between the characters. They grew and evolved because of the influence of the other main characters around them. Of course Haley's performance was again very special.
2.) My next favourite moment is his other film from this year, "Jungle Book 2". Seeing the film in the theatre, and then watching Haley in studio singing the songs from the film on the DVD was a very endearing moment for me. He simply does whatever it takes to give his best performance for whatever project his is working on. Even with just his voice... he can still use his "magic" to draw you into his character.
3.) My final favourite moment, of many, is something that was so nicely pointed out by Kris in this birthday message for Haley. The end of 2003 brings to a close Haley's first decade in the entertainment industry. Looking at his resume, I very much doubt anyone will ever be able to even match such a brilliant and diverse collection of work. The level of quality is simply staggering, and somehow he has made it look like he has achieved it all with ease. As I start to get a little teary eyed just thinking about the little boy who started it all with one simple sentence, "Big would be an understatement." To the intelligent, thoughtful, and compassionate young man who answered many of the questions during the SHL tour with such conviction that you cannot help yourself but simply declare that, "Haley is the best."
As I did last year, an honourable mention has to go to his first performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall which occured early on a Thursday afternoon. Knowing just how important school is to Haley... and yet somehow leaving school to be a part of the initial performance for all those 5th graders was just a little bit more important.
