I saw Secondhand Lions tonight for the first time. I thought I would be intelligent, and I bought tickets for the 7:10 showing this afternoon. I really didn't think I would have any trouble getting a good seat. Silly me! When I arrived at the theater at about 7:00, it was over 70% full. My girlfriend and I had to search to find two seats together. There was quite a range of ages among the audience and everyone seemed to like what they saw.
The film itself was excellent. My two qualifications for saying that are that I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I would absolutely pay to see the film again. I laughed quite a few times during the film, and as usual during a Haley film I had tears in my eyes at least twice.
I think Haley did an outstanding job. He is so good with his emotions and his ability to draw the audience into his character. I really felt like I was a part of the film. I feel this was a great "next step" for Haley as he moves toward adult status as an actor. I also hope that another great role will be in the near future for him.
