Hi Candy Cane!

When the fires were at their worst they were covered on TV, in the newspapers, and even on the Weather Channel. Most of them are out or under control now, fortunately. They were pretty bad, and could have been a lot worse. When the Santa Ana winds were blowing offshore at 100 mph the firefighters had little chance to do anything, but fortunately the weather changed. More than 2000 homes were destroyed, and some people lost their lives.

If you didn't happen to be looking at the right news outlet at the right time, it would have been easy to miss a lot of this coverage.
